BROMSGROVE’S busking bobby became the first man in Worcestershire to receive the Prime Minister’s Point of Light award last Friday (June 27).

PC Ian Northcott was presented with the prestigious accolade by MP Sajid Javid for the voluntary work he has done through his Socks and Chocs project for the Homeless.

Ian launched it four years ago to collect socks, hats, gloves, sleeping bags and chocolate to make life more comfortable for those living on the streets.

Ian’s close work has not only improved the relationship between the homeless and the police but it has inspired people all over the country to start their own collection branches.

Ian said: “It is a honour to receive this award on behalf of everybody who has contributed to Socks and Chocs.

“Our ethos is ‘lots of people doing a little bit is much better than a few people doing a lot’.”

Sajid Javid added: “I am absoluelty delighted Bromsgrove’s busking bobby has won this award.

“I am very proud of him and all the other 51 recipients so far and the work they have done for their local communties. Bromsgrove is very proud of its busking bobby.”
