BROMSGROVE’S annual street theatre got under way in style last week with plenty to entertain the town’s youngsters during the school summer holiday.

It began at The Rec near Asda with Desert Island Discs, Punch and Judy shows and a life-size whale.

Other shows have taken place at Wythall Park, Catshill Village Meadow and Hagley PArk.

The fun continues on The Rec on Wednesday, with Bernie Bennett and Meet the Dinosaur.

And the last show – at Rubery’s St Chad’s Park on August 13 – will feature Bruce Airhead and Steve Kaos.

Coun Rod Laight, whose portfolio covers leisure services, said: “It looks like record numbers have come down to enjoy the street theatre this year, and the new acts are going down really well.

“The first day in Bromsgrove seemed particularly busy, and families in Wythall and Catshill took advantage of the good weather to enjoy the performances there.

“Here’s to the sun staying out for everyone at the shows still to come in Hagley, Bromsgrove and Rubery.”
