ALDI’S new Bromsgrove town centre store was unanimously given the green light by district council planners last night (Monday).
The food store’s arrival will bring up to 40 new full and part-time jobs to the town and will be the second Aldi in Bromsgrove as the company intends to still keep its original store in Aston Fields open.
It will be built on the site in between the Birmingham Road and Stourbridge Road and three buildings – the derelict DDS&S Club, Parkside Motors and children’s play and party centre, Imagination Street – will make way for the new development.
The new store will be spread across 1254m2 of retail space and has been designed to include room for 82 car parking spaces.
Vehicle access will be via the Birmingham Road and there will also be a pedestrian pathway to the Stourbridge Road.
An Aldi spokesperson said the company was delighted its second store for the town had been overwhelmingly approved.
“We are pleased the council recognised our efforts to work with them over the last few months to get a design that everyone agreed on.
“We would like to thank the local community for their continued support and look forward to providing residents in this part of Bromsgrove with convenient access to a discount food store.
“We will work closely with the owners and occupiers currently on the site as we plan a timetable for construction.”
He added, at this early stage, Aldi was unable to provide an expected opening date but said the company would keep local residents informed as it moved forward.
