A BROMSGROVE youth club has had to close its doors after struggling to bring in youngsters.

The Stoke Heath Youth Club, which operated from Avoncroft Arts Centre,  had to shut last week because of lack of attendance which they have also put down to local schools providing more activities after school.

Chairman Maryna Walker, who took over after founder George Verney passed away last year, thanked all those who have been involved in the club over the years.

“I would like to offer, along with the management team, Coun Mike Thompson and Alison Jewson, Avoncroft management co-ordinator, our sincere thanks to Andy Ince, leader of the Youth Club and the youth club volunteers.

“They all did a wonderful job in giving their time and commitment, organising many varied activities for the youths of our community to find pleasure and enjoyment on a Wednesday evening.

“Well done and thank you.”

Maryna also gave a special thanks to three of the older youths, Alex Childs, Chris Bevan and Ben Court, who climbed Snowdon to raise £1,200 which will now go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

There is still £500 left over from the club’s funds which will now be used to take the remaining youngsters for a meal and bowling.

Some of the equipment that is no longer needed will also be sold, including a football table, table tennis and Connect Four which are all nearly new.
