THE FIFTH annual debating competition organised by MP Sajid Javid will be held tonight (Friday) at South Bromsgrove High School.

The event at 6.30pm will see students from six local schools take part in the first round, with the best two teams going on to debate the final motion: ‘This house believes newspapers are a thing of the past’.

The competition’s winners will win tickets to attend Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons and go on to host the 2016 event.

The judging panel will include Mr Javid alongside BBC Midlands Today presenter, Michael Collie, and Bromsgrove Standard editor Tristan Harris.

Mr Javid said he was looking forward to what promised to be an exciting evening.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for young people across Bromsgrove to perfect speaking in public and forming persuasive arguments which are valuable life skills.

“The event is open to the public, so I hope to see as many people as possible coming along to support our young people.”
