A SERVICE of Remembrance to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War was held in Sanders Park on Monday (August 4).

It was organised by 92-year-old Bromsgrove Rotarian Geoffrey Neal who is a Second World War veteran and conducted the service along with Rev Tom Atfield.

About 20 people attended the service under the memorial oak tree.

Among them was Coun John Tidmarsh who planted the tree 11 years ago.

During the ceremony, a wreath was laid by current Bromsgrove Rotary president Tony Docherty in memory of those who lost their lives in the conflict and a two-minute silence was also observed.
