Bromsgrove residents urged to donate tools to Africa

Bromsgrove Editorial 4th Sep, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

AN APPEAL has been made by Bromsgrove’s All Saints Church for residents to donate tools so they can be sent to Africa.

A collection is being held at the venue on Burcot Lane from 10am to 4pm next Saturday and between 1pm and 4pm next Sunday (September 13 and 14) as part of the Festival of Churches in the Diocese of Worcester.

The ones most urgently needed are manual typewriters and tools for carpentry, plumbing, electrical and masonry work, along with those used for gardening and agriculture – although not lawn tools.

The items will be renovated by Chesham-based charity Workaid which will box up the items and send them as kits to poor communities in Africa.

Each kit can help to lift a family out of poverty by providing it with a means of earning an income.

Donations will also be welcome throughout the weekend to help with Workaid’s shipping costs.

Those who go along will be able to look at the baptism and marriage records going back to 1874, buy from a Fairtrade stall, look around the beautiful church and take in its history through a display.

And there will also be hot drinks, cakes and biscuits on offer as well.

For more information, call Tessa Carrick on 01527 873135.
