RESIDENTS at a Bromsgrove care home have been growing their own tomatoes and apples and transforming them into mouth-watering chutneys.
There was a bumper crop of produce at Breme Residential Care Home, Providence Road, after a great season in the orchard and in poly-tunnels.
Activities leader Helen Barron said it was a wonderful way for the residents to reminisce and it was lovely to watch the joy they got from creating something special from their home-grown produce.
“The smell of the tomatoes and cinnamon cooking together has conjured up some very happy memories and we have had so much fun making it.” she added.
Resident Violet Moore, 88, said: “The lovely smells took me back to Christmas morning.
“We would make chutneys at this time of year but wouldn’t open them until Christmas day, when we would have them with cooked hams.”
The chutneys will be sold in the home’s reception with the cash raised going towards the residents’ activities fund to pay for trips and treats.
