ALMOST £3,200 was generated by pupils from Bromsgrove Prepratory School during their annual charities week which sees all year groups participate in fund-raising for worthy local causes.
This year, the money is going towards ‘Star Appeal’ and will help the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity which is hoping to raise more than £3million to create the UK’s first centre for children with rare diseases.
The charities committee is a relatively new scheme at the preparatory school.
Year eight pupils decide prices, organise events and raise the cash themselves.
The selected pupils researched which charities they would like to support and then presented a shortlist of charities to the whole school during assembly.
Most of the shortlisted charities had a personal connection to pupils in the committee in some way.
All pupils across every year group voted, with the majority choosing the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
BCHC representative Nancy Lillington came in to speak to children during an assembly about how the money would benefit others.
It was raised through games, film nights and the ‘chance of a lifetime’ to soak a teacher for £1.
Nancy then returned to receive the money and the charities committee hope to go to the hospital for a tour and to see how all the children’s hard work and the huge amount they raised is being put to use.
Samantha Cartwright, who runs the charities committee, said its members had been an ‘extremely enthusiastic and dedicated bunch this year’.
