A BROMSGROVE playing field is getting a new £310,000 changing room pavilion thanks to a partnership between Bromsgrove District Council and partners of the Football Foundation.

The new building which will serve the field off Barnsley Hall Drive is set to be officially opened next Saturday (September 3).

A £48,000 grant put forward by The Premier League and FA Facilities Fund enabled the council to fund the complex which features two team changing rooms, two officials’ rooms, spectator toilets, a kitchen and plant storage. A new car park has also been included at the site.

Since 2000, the Football Foundation Funding Partners’ investment has provided 121 grants worth over £7million towards grassroots sports projects worth nearly £16million across the whole of Worcestershire.

The Football Foundation, founded in 2000, is the largest sports charity in the UK and is funded by the Premier League, the FA and the Government, via Sport England.

It funds the development of new and refurbished grassroots sports facilities in order to improve the quality and experience of playing sport at grassroots level.

Coun Peter Whittaker, whose portfolio covers leisure, said: “I welcome the opportunity for this council to support sports at grassroots level and I am delighted with the improvements at the site which the officers have worked hard to complete.

“I hope the new grounds are a score with the teams too.”
