RESIDENTS who have outdoor wear they no longer use are being urged to donate it to those living on the streets as part of a campaign introduced to a Droitwich store.

The Grab Your Coat scheme, was launched by Jeff Smith from bigmoose and has now been rolled out to eight Cotswold Outdoor stores in the country, including the one at Webbs garden centre.

It all began last year when Jeff was walking home from a night out and noticed how cold it was for the homeless.

He and his family spent one night a month going out to those living on the streets of Cardiff, ensuring they were fed and warm.

It was then he had the idea of launching a drive through social media for donations of clothes and, after speaking to staff at the local Cotswold Outdoor store he goes to in South Wales, it was decided the shop could be used as a drop-off point.

Soon they had 60 black bags full of coats, gloves, hats, blankets, footwear and sleeping bags which all went to help keep the homeless warm.

Now it is hoped those living in Droitwich and Bromsgrove who are buying new outdoor wear or receiving some for Christmas will drop off the items they are replacing to the Cotswold Outdoor store at Webbs.

Jeff said: “We are grateful for Cotswold’s backing and for every single item which will go to ensure those living on the streets have a warmer winter.”

Droitwich store manager Becky Williams said: “We were really keen to back the campaign – it’s a really good charity.

“A lot of our customers replace their kit every year – the replaced items might be old to them but for a homeless person they will

be amazing.”
