A BROMSGROVE man will run the Bupa Birmingham Run on October 19 in aid of the Primrose Hospice BIG Appeal which aims to raise £100,000 for the charity in 80 days.

Andrew Albutt is undertaking the race in memory of his nan who was diagnosed with terminal cancer – the Primrose Hospice were her first point of contact and answered any questions the family had about the illness.

Andy said: “They were there to support the whole family through a difficult and sad time.

“Nan used to visit the Day Hospice weekly and enjoyed meeting up with other people there.

“It also gave one day per week respite for the family carers.”

When she needed hospital care she was looked after by the team at the Primrose at the Princess bedded unit at Bromsgrove’s Princess of Wales Hospital.

“She was able to receive full medical support and we were able to have ‘normal’ family time there.

“Nan desperately wanted to return home to die and we were fully supported to allow this to happen.

“Without their help and support we couldn’t have fulfilled her wishes.

“For all of this we will be forever grateful.,“ added Andy.

Anyone wanting to donate to Andy can visit https://www.justgiving.com/Andrew-Albutt/ and pledgeg their chosen amount there.

The Primrose Hospice BIG Appeal, which was launched through The Standard has currently reached £39,894.01.

The 80 days theme has been chosen as it costs the charity £100,000 to provide 80 days worth of the services it offers.

The current total equates to 32 days of care, so the cash for another 48 days is now being sought.

Residents are being urged to organise fund-raising events for the cause, based on the theme ‘Around the World in 80 Days’.

Those wanting to donate can send a cheque – made payable to ‘Prirmose Hospice’ to BIG Appeal, Primrose Hospice, St. Godwalds Road, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire B60 3BW or donate cash to any of the charity’s shops, such as Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Rubery.

Donations can be made online to www.primrosehospice.org/bigappeal or by texting PHBA01 £12/£26/£57 to 70070.

Or pledges can be made over the phone by card by calling 01527 889796.

We at The Standard would also like to hear about your fund-raising events so we can publicise them – let us know by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01527 588657.
