A BROMSGROVE man is celebrating his 400th blood donation by urging others donate to the good cause.

David Stephens started giving blood about 30 years ago when the blood drive went to The Alexandra Hospital where he works as an electrician and maintenance worker. After giving whole blood for several yeas he then began to donate platelets which he continues to give every few weeks.

The 57-year-old said he started the process with his family in mind, believing it might be used to help them one day.

“If this can help someone or go someway to help my family. Both my mum and dad had hip operations a few years ago and I just thought if I can help my mum and dad or other families then why not do it.

“I would encourage people to go. It does not hurt. The more people who can donate the better. The more lives they can save.

“I actually recently got a text to say my donation was being used to help someone.”

David will be attending a special ceremony in October where he will be celebrated for his contribution over the last three decades.
