BROMSGROVE Hockey Club is hoping young people will be inspired by the sensational Olympic win notched up by the Team GB women’s hockey team and ‘join the gold rush’.
The club’s successful Junior Hockey Academy gets under way from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Sunday, September 11 with a family day for existing and new juniors together with friends and family.
Alan Gormley, the head coach of Bromsgrove Hockey Club, said: “Every season we hold a hockey festival weekend, HockeyFest, in conjunction with our governing body England Hockey.
“Saturday is reserved for older juniors and adults whilst Sunday is a morning of fun challenges for children and their families.
“We view our sport as a family so this correlates very well.
“I’m sure the ladies superb performance will have fired the imagination of lots of children (and adults) and so we want to let them experience what it is all about.”
There are currently 200 juniors in the Academy and the club now wants to involve even more children.
Any child from school age through to 15 is welcome to go along with friends and family.
All the club asks is those attending let it know beforehand so it can ensure there are enough coaches to give participants a fun and quality experience.
“The growth in local hockey is already big and we’ve added summer schools and summer camps to our offerings in recent seasons,” added Alan.
