A BROMSGROVE woman who crashed her car after spinning it 180 degrees was more than twice over the legal drink drive limit.

Jessica Rose Drysdale, of Birmingham Road, pleaded guilty at Redditch Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (July 15) for driving with 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of her breath on June 28.

The court heard how the 22-year-old had been out in Birmingham with her former boyfriend having celebratory drinks on June 27 when their night ended because of a domestic argument resulting in the end of their relationship.

And, when Drysdale returned to her boyfriend’s house in Longbridge, where her car was parked, she was informed she was not welcome to stay the night.

Drysdale had been driving down the Birmingham Road at around 4am when she crashed into a stationary object, span her car and came to a stop in the middle of the carriageway.

Defending, Ms Diljit Bachada said Drysdale had felt she had nowhere to go and as if she had no choice but to drive – which is when she got into her car to go home to Bromsgrove.

She added Drysdale had been waiting at the side of the road, out of the vehicle, when the police arrived.

The court heard how Drysdale could have easily told the police she was not the driver, and not been proven otherwise, but in her interview she was very honest and took full responsibility for her actions.

Chairman of the bench, Sue Mitchell, said they had taken Drysdale’s honesty and early guilty plea into account but had also bore in mind the fact of the amount of excess alcohol in her breath, which was right at the top of the scale as well as the aggravating factor that she had been involved in an accident.

Drysdale was handed a 22-month driving ban and was ordered to pay a £260 fine, £85 in costs and a victim surcharge of £26.
