A BROMSGROVE beauty queen wants to inspire other girls into believing that nothing is beyond their reach.
Amy Jones, of Central Road, will be one of the finalists competing for the title of Miss Birmingham on March 15 in the hope of getting through to the finals of Miss England.
The 18-year-old first started modelling about eight months ago after losing three stone and dropping from a size 14 to an eight.
Amy said she was on holiday and just decided she was going to do it and lose the weight and get into modelling.
She added she sent in an application to the Miss Birmingham competition on the off-chance she might be selected.
She was then invited for an interview and to do a photo-shoot and catwalk trial.
For the Miss Birmingham crown Amy will have to make an eco-dress out of just recyclable materials and take to the catwalk in an evening dress and a sportswear outfit.
Amy said another reason she wanted to take part in the competition was because she was really interested in Headway West Midlands and as it was not really a well-known charity she wanted to raise awareness of it.
She added: “I have known people that have had meningitis and then had serious problems afterwards.
“I have never done anything like this before.
“I spoke to some of the other girls and a lot of them had done pageants before but it was completely new to me.
“I think another reason I wanted to do something like this was to empower other girls that they can lose the weight and achieve their goals.
“When I got into modelling I knew I wanted to be that weight – now looking at a size eight dress is amazing.”
Amy said she wanted to thank Bromsgrove-based company Zircom Data Communications Limited which had kindly agreed to sponsor her.
