BIRMINGHAM Law Society (BLS) set a milestone last month when it carried out its very first networking event at Bromsgrove School.
Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid who also attended, joined new president of the Society John Hughes from the law firm Shakespeare Martineau.
The Society’s previous president Mustaq Khan from the firm Freeths LLPs and Society council member Denise Watkins – a partner at local firm Gordon Jones and Co also attended alongside lawyers from across the region.
The purpose of the event was to recognise the contribution of the legal service sectors to the regional economy and the role they played in helping businesses and the wider community.
It was also an opportunity to help lawyers to connect with each other and get local firms to join the Society.
Mr Javid who shared his views about the implications of the EU referendum said: “After almost a century representing lawyers across the region it was a privilege to address the Birmingham Law Society. I’m continuing to champion the Midlands Engine in Cabinet meetings and want to do all I can to encourage growth across our whole region’s economy.”
