Banner event in run up to Save Our Services rally

FAMILIES are being invited to create eye-catching banners for the upcoming Save Our Services rally.

Neal Stote, leader of the Save The Alex campaign, is asking residents to display their thoughts on current proposals to change services at the Alexandra Hospital.

Some of the concerns raised by the group include the resignation of four A&E department consultants, health bosses failing to publish their views on the proposed changes and the loss of doctor-led maternity services at the Alex.

The banners and posters will be judged on the day of the rally which will takes place on May 2 with prizes being given to those who created the best and most colourful signs.

These include a month’s pass to Coconut Island for children up to the age of 16, and a meal for two at the Bell Inn, Astwood Bank, for those over 16.

The aim is to march from Redditch Town Hall about 11am to the bandstand outside the former Smallwood Hospital where a number of speakers have been lined up to address the issue.

On the day there will also be performances from a number of acts including The Uke-Men League.

Mr Stote said: “We want to see what the people of this town think about our hospital, the proposals and what they want to happen.

“We want as many banners and posters as possible on the day to voice residents’ thoughts and we want them to be colourful so they stand out.

“This is our time to say and showcase exactly how we feel.”
