Bags, gloves and litter-pickers in abundance at Bromsgrove clean-up

BROMSGROVE High Street is looking squeaky clean after residents and traders teamed up to take out the rubbish on Wednesday (August 19) as part of Town Team’s Big Bromsgrove High Street Clean-up.

With gloves at the ready and bin bags a-plenty, members of the community came together to clear litter from the High Street, focusing on the nooks and crannies that discarded rubbish tends to accumulate in.

The clean-up is part of Town Team’s effort to polish up the High Street for the Great British High Street 2015 competition.

The clean-up also comes in response to concerns of residents over the state of the High Street.

Lorita Cornish, who runs Lorita’s Bakehouse, said: “We need to take responsibility for our High Street and make everyone proud of it.”

She added the clean up not only made the High Street look better, but also brought the community together.

Bromsgrove District Councillor Rita Dent, whose portfolio includes the town centre, said: “It was brilliant to see our Town Team of traders, residents and council come together to help create a Better Bromsgrove.

“We picked up 11 bags of litter and I was surprised at what we found once we had started.

“Hopefully we can help encourage everyone to take pride in their High Street and ensure they put their litter in a bin.”
