RESIDENTS can get an insight into the fire service and police force at a special open day being held in Bromsgrove this weekend.
The event – at the Blue Light Centre, Slideslow Drive from midday to 4pm tomorrow (Saturday) – will enable those who go along to take part in a number of activities.
These include seeing fire engines and equipment close up and watching demonstrations, including a smoke tent, a chip pan fire and a fire investigation.
West Mercia Police will also be providing home safety advice and, weather permitting, the police helicopter will be landing on the adjacent football field.
Fire engine rides will be on offer, the Young Firefighters Association (YFA) will be carrying out a tower rescue and visitors will be able to meet local firefighters, police armed response teams and police dogs.
The police motorcyccle unit will be in attendance, along with the West Mercia Search and Rescue Team, Geoamey Prison Transportation and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
Wellaphant – the fire mascot – and Peeler the police dog will entertain youngsters and there will be burgers, ice cream and a cake stall available throughout the day, along with children’s rides.
