A TEAM of 30 people from Bromsgrove will swim 26 miles to raise funds for The Alzheimer’s Society.
The Swim a Memory Marathon will be held on April 30 at the Dolphin Centre, which has kindly given the pool free for the cause.
Those vying to undertake the 1,664 lengths of the 25-metre pool as a relay will be swimming in memory of a loved one who has suffered with Alzheimer’s or for the cause.
Organiser Jo Hackett told The Standard: “I am doing it for my truly amazing Godmother Beryl Whitworth who had this awful disease and passed away November 19 2015.
“I am also doing it in memory of my auntie Vera Smith and close family friend Beatrice Richards.
“But since I mooted the idea, others have come forward and told me they will also be doing it for close friends or family members who have been affected.
“I am so proud and thankful to those who have joined us and now we just want to raise as much money as possible.”
The team has set a target of £1,000 and, with over a month to go, £130 has already been pledged.
