Volunteers create Blackwell’s first free music festival

THE VILLAGE of Blackwell is holding its first ever music festival tomorrow (Saturday) from 11am to 9pm.

Taking place in the wooded grounds of Cropwood House, part of the Hunters Hill complex on Spirehouse Road, the event features local artists and renowned festival bands, including popular cover group, Definitely BritPop.

The not-for-profit event has been organised by a group of local volunteers and is inspired by the hugely successful summer festival, which has been going strong for the last five years.

Organising committee member Bill Heneghan said: “The Blackwell Festival has been a great way to get our local residents together, they’re great fun and enjoyed by everyone that comes.

“The music festival is a bit different, but we are sure everyone will enjoy it, we have some great bands booked, a barbecue, a bouncy castle and a licensed bar.

“The first Glastonbury Festival started in a field 40 years ago with a little known band called T-Rex and a ticket price of £1, so we can perhaps dream of future greatness.”

Advance tickets are available from the Blackwell Village Store at the discount price of £10 (£5) while under fives get free entrance.
