SANTA’S little elves working for the Royal Mail have revealed what children really want to get this Christmas.

There is no doubt the type of gifts youngsters have requested over the years has changed but what is at the top of their list in their letter to Father Christmas?

Royal Mail has carried out a survey to find the top ten presents for 2015.

Just making the list at number 10 is Peppa Pig toys, remaining ever popular but only just making the cut this year.

With the film Peppa Pig: The Golden Boots having hit the big screen back in February the lovable Peppa may have stayed in the minds of youngsters but the novelty may have worn off by the time they came to write their letters to the North Pole.

Reaching number nine was the iPhone and, being an expensive gift for a child has not seemed to deter the nation’s young list-writers from trying their luck and asking for one anyway. With older handsets such as the 5C available to buy second hand for about £120 perhaps their chances aren’t so bad.

PAW Patrol toys may be a cheaper option popping up in eighth place with each pack of figures from the hit TV show, from Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr channel, costing about £12.

DVDs were next in line as a general entry on the list at number seven.

With all the gadgets and gizmos available today it is nice to see board games as the sixth most popular item in the letters to Santa. The traditional family fun games may be making comeback (or maybe they have never been away). We will all have memories of playing board games with our parents and grandparents and it is great the current generation will still have those, whether it be solving murders through Cluedo,

taking over the world with Risk or testing their knowledge with Trivial Pursuit.

Nerf guns are in the top five most asked for Christmas presents, ranging from a penny-saving £6 to a wallet busting £135.

Number four on the chart was games consoles and when there are so many to choose from, it can be difficult to know exactly which one to get. with the most modern consoles costing a purse-popping £300 it is important to find out what is the best option. Ask the parents of your child’s friends and find out what they are all planning to do. There is nothing worse than setting up a game station for your youngster and realising they cannot play with anyone because their pals all have Xboxes and you bought a Playstation 4 or vice versa.

You may think the years of sitting with the children playing with Play-doh were over but this survey reveals otherwise. The model-making soft stuff charted at an impressive third place on the list.

With all the stories you hear about childhood obesity, it is encouraging to know the second most sought after gift was a bike. And, as well as being one of the most exciting and usable presents to receive, they can last your children from years to come.

Beating the competition for the most popular gift of 2015 was Lego, in particular Star Wars Lego. The new film The Force Awakens will surely have an influence on youngsters’ choices and it is a sure way to keep children happy and occupied – at least you will know they are doing something constructive.
