Plenty planned for Bromsgrove Festival

HERE are the latest events to come to the town as part of the annual Bromsgrove Festival which has been delighting audience since its launch earlier this month.

ON TUESDAY (June 30) Artrix hosts Daniel Ciobanu, winner of 2014 Bromsgrove International Young Musicians Competition who will be performing a recital called ‘Waltzes and Fireworks’.

Among the pieces he will play are five by Chopin, including three of his waltzes, along with music by Shchedrin, Debussy, Ravel and Strauss / Gunfield.

The event has been organised by Bromsgrove Concerts and tickets are £12 (£5 concessions).

ON WEDNESDAY (July 1) there will be the latest Festive Classic at Avoncroft Museum’s Guesten Hall, featuring  the associate conductor of the CBSO, Michael Seal. During the event, which starts at midday, he will be performing and talking about his 23-year career as a conductor and musician. Then at 1pm there will be lunch at the venue.

PLAZA COFFEE will again be hosting another Acoustic Cafe on Wednesday (July 1) from 3pm to 5pm. It will be hosted by Bob Bignell from local acoustic band Fairfield.

The free event is open to all musicians of any age and music and poetry of any genre is welcome to be performed.

THERE will be Jazz on a Summer’s Evening at 7.30pm at Artrix on Wednesday (July 1).

That will feature some of the county’s finest young musicians as part of the Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra (WYJO), along with special guest saxophonist and clarinet player Alan Barnes.

The WYJO will also perform in the Jubilee Bandstand in Sanders Park from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Sunday (July 5) as part of Bromsgrove District Council’s free ‘Bands in the Park’ series.

EX CATHEDRA will be bringing its SingMaker project to St John’s Middle School in a day-long workshop with pupils where they will learn to develop a repertoire of many genres and varied cultures. An hour long concert at the Artrix at 6pm will showcase what they have learned through the workshops.

A SINGING day will be held at Bromsgrove Methodist Church from 10.30am to 4pm next Saturday (July 4).

Everyone is welcome to the event and be part of the big Bromsgrove Community Choir.

No experience is necessary and there will be no need for an audition. A selection of songs will be taught aurally, building up from short sessions to a big performance at the end.

IF SINGING is not for you on the same Saturday (July 4) Bromsgrove High Street will come alive to the sound of music and the joy of dancing.

The event takes place between 10am to 4pm.

THE BEST of Midlands’ farming, equestrianism and rural life will be on offer at this year’s Hanbury Countryside Show.

That takes place from 8am to 7pm next Saturday (July 4) at Park Hall Farm, Hanbury (B96 6RD).

The show is a traditional one-day agricultural and horse show and will feature the amazing Broke FMX display team.

A CELEBRATION of American Independence Day will be held next Saturday (July 4) at 7.30pm at Artrix.

The event has been organised by Redditch Orchestra and also features choral items from Vale Harmony and Vale Connection.

Among the pieces will be Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ featuring soloist Guy Shepard and Copland’s Four dances from ‘Rodeo’ performed by Sousa Marches.

Music from American shows, including ‘Oklahoma’, ‘South Pacific’ and ‘West Side Story’, will also be performed.

Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions) with accompanied children going free.
