Embark on a lunar adventure this half-term with 'Capture the Flag'

IF THERE is a ‘space’ in the entertainment you have planned for your children this half-term, it will be well worth picking up the film Capture the Flag.

It centres around 12-year-old Mike Goldwing whose family has a history of space missions – his dad Steve and grandad Frank were both astronauts.

But, after Frank was dropped from an Apollo 11 space mission with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, he hid himself away, causing disruption in the family.

Meanwhile eccentric and evil billionaire Richard Carson sets off on his journey to the moon to try and monopolise its vast and valuable resources.

Plucky Mike and his best friends Amy and Marty – and Marty’s clever chameleon – try to reunite the family to help a planned NASA mission back to the moon to stop Carson and reclaim the area by ‘capturing the flag’.

But when things don’t go to plan, the youngsters decide maybe it is up to them to head into space.

This is not just a fun film for children, it is also entertaining for the adults as, in between the action, there are plenty of good one-liners and visual jokes.

Among the highlights are the conversations and banter between the children, the scenes when Mike, Amy and Marty are undertaking their own versions of astronaut training and when, in the rocket, a bag of Skittles is opened.

And when you watch this, not only do you take the lovable characters into your heart, you also cannot help be taken back to your own childhood and imagine what an adventure it would have been to have had the chance to fly to the moon.

My daughter also wanted to find out more about Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and the moon landing after seeing this so it has even inspired some learning in our house.

As well as space travel and missions to the moon, this is a feel-good film about uniting family members together so why not get the family together this half-term and check out Capture the Flag?

Capture the Flag, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution, came out on Digital HD on May 23 and is available on Blue-Ray and DVD from Monday (May 30).

Special features include ‘The Making of Capture the Flag – parts 1 and 2’ (DVD) and ‘The Making of Capture the Flag – parts 1 and 2’, Beyond Capture the Flag and I’ll Reach You music video by Auryn.
